What to Expect Day of Your Surgery

  • Please bring all insurance information with you including your insurance card and driver’s license.
  • Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to put on and off, for example, shirts that button up the front or loose fitting slacks.
  • Please leave all valuables at home. Remove all rings and wedding bands if possible.
  • Bring a current list of your medications and dosages for your medical chart.
  • You may brush your teeth; rinse your mouth but do not swallow the water.
  • Follow the eating, drinking and medication instructions you have been given. Failure to follow these instructions will result in the delay or cancellation of your surgery.
  • Arrive at Seattle Orthopedic Center at the time given by the pre-operative nurse.
  • If you use an inhaler, bring it with you.
  • If you wear contact lenses, glasses, or hearing aids bring a case or container, and solution for contacts, to protect them while you are in surgery.

Special Instructions for Diabetics

  • Do not take oral anti-diabetes medications such as Chorpropamide( Diabinese), Glyburide(Diabeta, Glynase, Micronase), Gilpizide (Glcotrol), Metfomin( Glucophage) or Rezulin.
  • Do take one –half your morning long acting insulin dose (Lente, NPH).
  • Do not take any regular insulin.
  • Bring your insulin with you the day of surgery.
  • If your surgery is scheduled in the afternoon and your blood sugar is higher than 200, contact the Pre-Admission nurse.

Checking in
When you arrive the day of your scheduled procedure, please present to the Front Reception Desk for check-in. Please have your insurance card and photo identification ready. You will be asked to complete paperwork related to your procedure. Additionally, any out of pock cost related to the surgery will be collected at that time.

Transportation Arrangements
Individual that requires sedation for their surgical procedure must be accompanied home by a responsible adult. This is a safety procedure that is strictly adhered to for your benefit.

Family
If you need to bring a child with you to your appointment, please make arrangements to have your child overseen. This is for the child’s safety and to maximize your time with our PT staff. Thank you for your cooperation & understanding.

Due to the need for privacy, we suggest that a limit of one or two family members visit the patient during the postoperative phase. The nursing staff will be happy to give family members waiting outside the recovery area periodic updates on the patient’s condition.

Family members are prohibited from entering the operating room.
